Unit 72 Drawing Concept Art for Computer Games

A concept artist is someone who visualises their teams ideas and creates a visual representation of it which will supply a blueprint of the design for the 3D animators to create or it can be used to inspire the team and company or used to gain new ideas. the concept artist will do this in the early stages of the designing work for the product. concept art is used in video games, animation and comic books etc.

                                                                     Sci-fi concept art

                                                                 Fantasy concept art

There are various different styles/genre of concept art such as science fiction, fantasy, realistic and many others.  With this each concept artist specialises in their styles that interest them and inspire them or there own personal style. also there are different styles in the way they can paint or draw their art such as sketches, thumbnail drawing, speed paints, matte painting, digital painting and various others.

Digital painting is when someone uses a  digitizing tablet and stylus and software such as photoshop. This will allow them to use all the techniques used in traditional painting and also create there own brushe styles.

one of the concept artists i researched is Emrah Elmash who was the concept artist for fable2/3. His concept art is based on his inspieration from the ottoman culture mixed in with fantasy. his work is mainly digital painting for a video game company.  The reason i like his work is because  it is creative and the colours that have been used fits with the genre perfectly.
